As more consumers use mobile devices to search for car dealerships, mobile optimized pages are needed because potential customers will bounce if pages take too long to load.
To facilitate mobile website development, Google has an open source initiative called Accelerated Mobile Pages, which aims to improve the speed of loading content from mobile websites.
The Vice President of Search Engineering at Google, David Besbris said “We want webpages with rich content like video, animations and graphics to work alongside smart ads, and to load instantaneously. We also want the same code to work across multiple platforms and devices so that content can appear everywhere in an instant—no matter what type of phone, tablet or mobile device you’re using.”
Google is rolling out more functionality and features that can help mobile pages for car dealers focus on three core areas:
Distribution To improve distribution of content, Google will open their global cache servers to be used by anyone free of charge. Mobile website services will still be able to host their own content, but that content will load much faster by implementing code that can take advantage of Google’s cache.
Advertising Websites using AMP HTML will have a choice of which ad networks and ad formats to use, as long as those ads don’t slow down a site or create a poor user experience. Google’s plan is to work with publishers and industry experts to figure out the parameters for online advertising that will optimize mobile website design and user experience.
